Volunteer employees of the Simpar Group were trained to work in hospitals and long-term care facilities
São Paulo, July 2023 - The Julio Simões Institute, the social arm of Simpar - the holding company that controls JSL, Movida, Vamos, CS Brasil, CS Infra, Automob and BBC Digital - is celebrating the training of yet another group of volunteers. This Saturday, July 29, the Julio Cidadão Project is training 37 employees of the Simpar Group to be "Clown Doctors". The program has more than 40 volunteers who visit hospitals and long-term care homes in the Alto Tietê region.
With more than 2,300 visits carried out between January and June this year, the program offered employees a 59-hour training course that develops behavioral skills, empathy, compassion, self-knowledge and social protagonism, which can be applied inside and outside the institution.
The training program seeks to develop humanizing volunteering, promoting personal transformation in the participants and stimulating a broader vision of the possibilities for social transformation. During the training, the volunteers had the opportunity to get involved in interaction dynamics, debates on controversial topics and practical activities in the internships, thus learning how to use clowning and joy as a powerful tool for volunteer work.
“We believe that by nurturing positive habits and attitudes, our volunteers have the potential to spread these transformations in their communities as well. This is how we manage to create a network of good deeds" says Bia Andari, manager of the Júlio Simões Institute.
On completion of the training, the volunteers are able to make visits to hospitals and long-term care homes for the elderly and children.
The project, with its first class formed in 2007, encourages volunteering in the hospital environment through the "clown doctors". In addition, it trains and accompanies volunteers who work in Long Stay Institutions for the Elderly (ILPIs), hospitals in the Mogi das Cruzes region and other institutions.
